The week we made the Very Hungry Caterpillar Story…
At the welcome circle we talked about the book without showing it, I asked the Woodchips who was in the book and what happened. We then went and made
The Very Hungry Caterpillar on a Leaf
Green card cut out into a leaf shape, pom poms for the body, cotton bud ends for the antennae and the middle bits saved for the legs and eyes from pipe cleaners.
Next I gave out the food cards that I had printed from here & the Woodchips decorated them anyway they wanted
And finally we made our beautiful butterflies with inspiration from the Nurture Store and just to be different I hid the paint brushes and we used a cut up washing up sponge (2 textures) and cotton buds to do the painting
After snack time we played the Very Hungry Caterpillar Game
The children walk/run/march in a large circle and when I shot out they make the shape
Butterfly – flap your ‘wings’
Caterpillar – Lay on the floor and wriggle
Apple – Curl up in a ball
Leaf – Stand and wave about in the wind
Read the Very Hungry Caterpillar
I gave out the caterpillars, food pictures and butterflies and then read the story and asked everyone to hold up their pictures at that part.
